ACT: Stolen car eludes police in chase

CANBERRA, April 24 AAP - Police chased four youths in a stolen car through southern
Canberra suburbs early today before losing them.

An Australian Federal Police spokesman said a green Commodore was spotted being driven
through the industrial suburb of Fyshwick at 12.30am.

The car had been reported stolen yesterday from a home in nearby Narrabundah.

Three AFP cars pursued the Commodore through Red Hill, Forrest, Deakin, Chifley and
back into Red Hill where the Commodore vanished.

The spokesman said officers who spotted the car in Fyshwick believed the youths may
have been about to commit a break-in.

"We lost them but at least we stopped them burglarising somewhere," he told AAP.

The spokesman said the chase reached a speed of 110 kmh at one point but mostly stayed
around 60 to 70 kmh.

Other police vehicles were stationed at strategic points but the spokesman said the
youths avoided main roads, instead driving around residential streets.
